Over the past few years, Xerocon has evolved into one of the largest traveling cloud accounting conferences in the world. It’s a place where accountants, bookkeepers, and the technology companies that make their lives easier, gather to share experiences and learn.
Over the past year I have been fortunate enough to participate in Xerocons around the world. I’m really excited to be able to share the experience with some of you in the US this August at Xerocon San Francisco! Here are five things I’ve picked up along the way. You are going to want to be a part of this great gathering of Xero’s customers and Partners in San Francisco from August 15-17!
1. You’ll meet smart people who are embracing cloud accounting
A lot of software companies have great technology and smart people. The difference that you will find meeting Xero’s marketplace partners, fellow advisors and small businesses is the passion everyone feels about doing business a new way. It’s the true entrepreneurial spirit that started with Rod Drury and is a part of the hearts and minds of every Xero employee. Xero is about breaking barriers and finding new ways to do tasks that are hundreds of years old. It’s about leading an industry, not copying what others have already done.
The people who are attracted to Xero as a business are innovative and taking risks every day, trying new things and seeing what sticks. Xerocon gives you the opportunity to learn from these people and spur inventions that you may want to try in your business as well. Take the opportunity to be inspired by all that’s around you and see where you can take your business this year.
2. You’ll learn how to leverage the Xero platform to build a stronger practice
Becoming a Xero Advisor is the first decision that makes everything else possible.
Your job is not to sell software, but to build an amazing business – whether you want it to grow or serve the lifestyle of your dreams. With Xero, you are building a platform of tools that will help you deliver your services in new ways. Because of the way that Xero was developed, building this platform is easy and it allows you to differentiate your business from the competition, enabling you to work on a single ledger with your clients.
At Xerocon, you get the unique opportunity to meet many of our best add-ons in person and start thinking about the platform you want as the backbone of your practice. Even if you already have a platform, there are always new companies innovating the tasks you do every day, to save you time, so you can focus on building your business. If you don’t walk away with at least one more add-on for your platform, it would be surprising!
3. You’ll learn how to collaborate in the cloud
One of the things that makes Xero unique and attracts people to our platform, is its design. Design is more than the look and feel of the software, it’s the experience it creates for you and your customers. Beautiful design enhances collaboration with your clients and helps small businesses thrive. The speed of innovation to automate and streamline tasks will be a theme many of the Xerocon speakers will address.
With so much disruption hitting the accounting industry, understanding how to build value and transition your practice to the cloud will be central tenements of Xerocon San Francisco.
As a practicing accountant, transitioning to the cloud has opened my eyes to so many new opportunities and ways of doing business with customers. When you’re at Xerocon, listen out for how you can diversify your firm to include cloud-based advisory services and create a beautiful experience for your customers. This way, they won’t be able to imagine doing business with anyone but you.
4. It’s not like every other conference you’ve been to, it’s fun!
You won’t experience the energy you’ll experience at Xerocon at any other accounting conference. Xero makes accounting cool, and Xerocon is just plain fun! If you are going to take time away from the office, we want to make it worth your while. From the MC, the speakers, and the party at the end, there won’t be a moment you’ll want to miss. No accounting conference that I have ever been to in my career knows how to throw a party like Xero does!
5. It’s not just about the cloud, it’s a movement
Besides the learning, the most important thing I have taken away from the Xerocons I have attended around the world is the feeling of being a part of a movement.
Whether you are out there on your own running a business, or in a bigger firm starting up this service line amongst traditional offerings, you will find that Xero accountants, bookkeepers and small businesses break the mold.
It’s a networking opportunity for like-minded people that are progressive and embrace change. They keep pushing the limits and so does Xero. We have a bond knowing we are part of something different that is going to change the nature of our industry. If you believe that, or are curious about it, you should be at Xerocon so you can make the connections that are going to last you beyond the actual event.
I have met accountants, bookkeepers, small businesses and add-on partners from all around the world this past year. No matter what the country, the common theme is the same – Xero is the future and being a part of Xero connects you to people all around the world just like you. Each country’s Xero customers may have some cultural differences here and there, but at the highest level, we are all advisors trying to help small businesses thrive and providing the best, most innovative technology to get them there. Join us in San Francisco and see what it’s all about!
